How does the Housing Calculator determine what rent is
affordable for you?
The formula the calculator uses is based on the standard
guideline of an affordable housing cost provided by the federal
government. This guideline states that an individual or
household should spend no more than 30% of their gross income
on rent and utilities.
The calculator determines what is an affordable monthly
housing cost for you based on this formula and the information
you provide us. Housing Connections does not require you to
search for housing based on the calculator’s findings, but you
can use it as a guideline in your search.
